SMART Process Design

 

Project Description

 

Short description of product: SMART Process Design is a software solution that is developed in-house. It is a collaboration platform that provides a Front-End to our manufacturing process experts (scientists, process engineers) to make use of advanced process models (e. g.machine learning techniques) to optimize manufacturing processes.

The Services Mentioned in the points below will be performed within the framework of an agile development method.

 

Background to the Assignment

 

Methodology: The product is developed using agile methodology.

 

Lean UX in a SCRUM Team with the goal to continuously build the right things for SMART Process Design in the right way. The UX designer will be informing what the right problems are from a user´s perspective, what to tackle next, what impact it has, how it can be solved and tests those assumptions as well as the final solution with users.

In the SMART Process Design context this translates to empowering bioprocess experts (like scientists) to make the most their bioprocesses by leveraging data models in the most efficient way.

The company does not have suitable resources and expertise for this internally. Because of this, the contractor holds a unique position and provides significantly different services than the internal staff.

 

Detailed Service Description

 

The product is being developed in SCRUM, with a dedicated Scrum Master and a Product Owner. We have an three week Sprint in which the team member work self-organized and collaborative, with the following ceremonies:

1. Daily standup, 15 to 30 mins every week day, starting at 09:30 in the daily standup, all team members provide an update on the progress, ask for collaboration and gives information. After the daily short discussions on special topics take place in the Daily Parking Lot. After that, the contractor works iteratively on his tasks.

2. The Review takes place twice during the Sprint; one after two weeks and one at the end of the Sprint. The team member can attend according to their needs. After that, the contractor works iteratively on his tasks.

3. Three weekly Sprint Retrospective, 1,5 hours: All team members discuss how the previous sprint went, what challenges occurred and actions for the next sprint are defined. The contractor will also provide his input in the discussion. After that, the contractor works iteratively on his tasks.

4. Three weekly Story Refinement: The Stories are discussed in the team, described in more detail and assessed with effort values. The Stories are the put in priority order for the planning. After that, the contractor works iteratively on his tasks.

5. Three weekly Sprint Planning: The Product Owner and the Development Team are defining what is the priority of each refined story and could describe sub-Tasks. After that, the contractor works iteratively on his tasks.

 

 

The concrete activities required in each case to implement the services commissioned shall be agreed iteratively between the parties within the framework of sprint meetings and implemented by the Contractor within the respective sprints following the sprint meetings. Prior to each sprint meeting, the contractor shall independently check, on the basis of their professional expertise, which individual services are reasonable and feasible within the scope of the assignment in the respective sprint.

 

The Contractor will take the role of an external UX Designer

 

The Contractor will receive all needed accesses, documents and information in advance.

 

The scope of services includes the following tasks, which are independently performed by the external contractor:

 

The contractor will provide the following service in adherence with internal standards 

• Actively brainstorming, presenting results and constantly getting feedback with Developers, UX designer, stakeholders, Product Owner & Scrum Masters.

• Creating, revising, and executing a user research plan according to the research objectives

• Employ both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies accordingly to the research plan, for example conduct interviews in person (based on COVID-situation) and remote

• Analyzing research data and present research insights to drive product direction.

• Translating research insights into appropriate design artifacts.

• Iterating designs based on internal reviews and customer feedback.

• Enabling collaborative design via design critiques.

• Creating effective interaction patterns.

• Monitoring the success of implemented features and gather feedback.

• Consulting the product team in the transition to user-centred product development based on contractors own expertise.

• Designing methods, tools and user centered design approach with IT UX Chapter.

• Creating and refining visual designs, contributing to marketing material (posters, slides).

• Translating designs into user stories.
